On December 31st, on New Year’s Eve, every housewife prepares Santa’s pie in which she places a lucky coin.

On the night of New Year’s Day, the man of the house places a piece of crisp-bread on the table for Santa to take. In the middle of the crisp-bread he also places a lit candle and next to the bread a plate full of “koliva”, which is a religious dish made with wheat kernels, honey or sugar, as well as a glass of wine and finally his wallet so that Santa, who is expected to visit the house after midnight, can bless it.

On New Year’s day, the residents go to church and at the end of the mass they embrace each other and wish their friends and relatives for a happy new year. Next, everyone goes home and enter the house by first stepping in using their right foot so that everything will go well for them during the New Year.
